How we chose
We do not test products ourselves and we do not pretend otherwise. Our work consists of combining three filters:
- A real, verified product listing. Every link below was opened in a browser on 11 September 2026: the page exists, it matches the product, and the displayed price is the one we quote.
- Enough customer reviews. No model enters our rankings with fewer than 150 customer reviews. A flattering rating from a few dozen reviews proves little; from several thousand, it becomes a signal.

What really matters under €50
Indoor or outdoor: two different products
An indoor camera is not designed for rain or cold. To film a garden or an entrance, choose a model announced for outdoor use, with declared weather resistance. Under €50, our ranking includes three.
Resolution, to be put into perspective
1080p, 2K, 3K: a higher resolution helps read a distant detail, but it makes recordings heavier and puts more strain on the Wi-Fi. To watch a room, 1080p is often enough; for a driveway or a façade, 2K and above make sense.
Local storage or subscription
Many cameras offer paid online storage by subscription. Before buying, check on the listing whether local recording is possible, for example on a memory card: that is what decides the real cost over several years.
Power: mains, battery or solar
A mains-powered camera never switches off, but needs a socket nearby. A wireless camera can be placed anywhere, at the cost of recharging; a solar panel, when supplied, reduces that constraint.
What you are allowed to film
In France, the CNIL (the data protection authority) points out that an individual may film the inside of their home and their property, but not the public road or their neighbours' land. Point an outdoor camera accordingly, and inform people who work in your home.
