A pair of noise-cancelling headphones transforms a day in an open-plan office, a train journey or a long flight. You still have to choose: between a €50 model and a €400 one, every listing promises "silence" and "dozens of hours of battery life". This guide starts from our headphone rankings, each listing of which was reopened at the retailer, and keeps only the models that advertise active noise cancellation.
The prices quoted were checked on the Amazon listings on 15 September 2026, unless another date is given. They often move by a few euros from one day to the next: always check the displayed price before buying. They are here to place each model, not to promise a price.
How we chose
We do not test the headphones ourselves and we do not claim otherwise. Our work consists of combining four filters:
- A real, verified product listing. Each link below leads to a listing opened in a browser: the page exists, it matches the headphones named, and the displayed price is the one we give.
- Noise cancellation advertised by the manufacturer. We only kept headphones whose listing advertises active noise cancellation. We do not measure attenuation in decibels, and no such figure appears here.
- A sufficient number of reviews. The least-reviewed model in the selection has 1,832 customer reviews; the most-reviewed, nearly 16,000.
- The Picksly 3-profile method. Budget, Smart or Premium: the "best" headphones depend on what you are willing to give up.
The features quoted (battery life, type of noise cancellation, microphone) are those advertised by the manufacturers on their listings, not our own measurements.
What really matters
Hybrid, adaptive: what the listings say
Active noise cancellation picks up ambient noise with microphones and offsets it with an inverse signal. Listings call it "hybrid" when the headphones combine microphones on the outside and inside of the ear cups, and "adaptive" when they adjust the effect to the surroundings. These terms describe a technique, not a result: two "hybrid" models are not necessarily equal.
Comfort matters as much as silence
Over-ear headphones enclose the ear; on-ear headphones rest on it. The latter are often more compact, the former isolate more from the outside by their very shape. For long days, weight and pressure on the head matter at least as much as the level of noise cancellation.
The microphone, if you make a lot of calls
For remote work or calls on the move, look at what the listing says about the microphone. Some models in our selection are presented as optimised for calls or have a dedicated control; others simply have a built-in microphone.
Battery life, to be read with caution
The advertised battery lives here range from 24 to 60 hours. Each manufacturer measures them under its own conditions, and using noise cancellation or a high volume can reduce them. For a week of daily commutes, most models in this selection are more than enough.

- 🟣 Smart: the JBL Tune 760NC (€129.99) to stay under €150, or the Sennheiser MOMENTUM 4 (€232.15) if you make a lot of calls and want the longest advertised battery life.

If you mainly want noise cancellation for sport or a pocket-sized format, headphones may not be the right choice: see our selection of the best wireless earbuds. For gaming or a fixed workstation, our guide to the best PC headset also compares wired and gaming models.
How to pay less
On headphones costing €250 or €400, an advertised "deal" is only worth it if the crossed-out price is real: our guide to spotting a genuine deal helps you sort things out. On every card in our comparisons, price tracking lets you know when a pair of headphones drops in price.
Install the Picksly extension: it recognises the product you are looking at, looks for verified alternatives suited to your profile — Budget, Smart or Premium — and tells you when the listing shown is not the best deal.
FAQ
Are noise-cancelling headphones under €100 worth it?
Four headphones in our selection cost less than €100 and each has several thousand reviews, with ratings of 4.4 to 4.5/5. Expect, however, simpler finishes, apps and call features than on models above €200.
On-ear or over-ear: which should you choose?
On-ear headphones rest on the ear: they are often more compact and easier to slip into a bag. Over-ear headphones enclose the ear: they isolate more by their shape. If you wear them for several hours at a stretch, try both formats before choosing if you can.
Do you need special headphones for phone calls?
Not necessarily, but look at what the listing says about the microphone: in our selection, the Sennheiser MOMENTUM 4 is presented as optimised for calls and the JBL Live 460NC has a dedicated control.
Why does the price change from one day to the next?
Retailers adjust their prices continuously. That is why we date every price quoted, and why the Picksly extension compares the current price rather than a fixed figure.
