The best tablet in 2026 is not the same for watching series, taking notes with a stylus or working on the move, and it changes again with your profile: happy to buy refurbished, attached to new, or set on the high end. Rather than a list of models whose prices change every week, this guide explains what Picksly measures on a tablet, what it does not measure, how to read the scores for your use, and which tablet it picks for each profile: Budget, Smart or Premium. If your ceiling is €350, our article on the tablet under €350 shows, with figures, what you give up below that price.

Start from your use, not from the spec sheet

Three questions already sort out most of it (editorial opinion, not a measurement):

  • The system: iPadOS if you already live in the Apple ecosystem, Android otherwise. Your apps, purchases and accessories rarely follow you from one system to the other.
  • Your main use: reading, video and browsing need little power; drawing and note-taking mostly need a precise, compatible stylus; gaming, editing and heavy multitasking need performance and memory.
  • Accessories: stylus, keyboard and case are often sold separately. Count them in your budget before comparing tablets with each other.

What Picksly measures, and what it does not

Picksly does not test tablets itself. It scores each criterion from 0 to 100 from a named public source, with frozen bounds you can check on the tablet methodology page:

  • Performance: the total score from the public AnTuTu ranking (version 11). A low score does not mean "unusable": it says the gap with the fastest chips on the scale is large.
  • Memory (RAM): the amount in the configuration tested by AnTuTu, from 4 GB (score 0) to 12 GB (score 100). On this scale, 6 GB is worth 25 and 8 GB is worth 50. The same model often exists in several configurations: check the one in the offer.
  • Battery: the capacity in mAh read on the GSMArena spec sheet, from 6,495 mAh (0) to 12,140 mAh (100). It is a capacity, not a measured battery life: two tablets with the same capacity can last differently depending on the screen and the chip.

Picksly does not score the screen. No public source ranks tablet screens, and nothing is estimated in its place. The weight of this criterion still stays in the total: an overall score only exists if more than half of the criteria's weight is actually measured. Performance and memory alone make exactly half, which is not enough: without a known battery capacity, a tablet stays listed without a score rather than with a flattering number. That is the case for iPads whose spec sheet only gives the battery in watt-hours: Picksly does not convert. On 21 September 2026, 79 of the 97 tracked tablets had an overall score.

Picksly does not score the stylus, the sound, the weight or the length of software updates either. Check them on the manufacturer's page.

Reading the scores for your use

Video, reading, browsing

These uses need little power. Look first at the ranking by battery, then check the screen yourself (size, resolution), which the score does not see. Modest performance is often enough (editorial opinion); if you hesitate between two close models, battery and screen separate them better than a few points of performance.

Note-taking and drawing

The stylus decides: check that it is compatible with the exact model, whether it is included, and count it in the price. Picksly does not score it. Memory matters more if you keep many documents or apps open: rank tablets by memory score.

Gaming, editing, multitasking

Here, performance is the decisive criterion: rank tablets by performance score, then by memory. This is the use where the gap between an entry-level tablet and a high-end one is felt most. If you mostly want to replace a computer, compare with a laptop too: keyboard, software and file management are on another level there.

Which tablet for your profile

In a comparison of two to four tablets, Picksly picks one choice per profile, following public rules. On the tablets page, you can also rank every model by Budget, Smart or Premium score. The weights of each score:

ProfilePerformanceScreen (not measured)BatteryMemoryValue for money
Budget1515201535
Smart2020251520
Premium35301520—

Value for money is a rank from 0 to 100 among the tablets in the same market that have a score and a verified price (at least five are needed): the best score for its price is worth 100, the worst 0.

🟢 Budget profile: €350 at most, new or refurbished

The Budget profile only keeps tablets whose price, new or refurbished, does not exceed €350, and among them the one with the best Budget score; without a score, the cheapest. The price used is the lower of the new and refurbished offers, and value for money is the heaviest criterion. It is the only profile that accepts refurbished: an older but better-equipped tablet can come out ahead of an entry-level new one if its score and price justify it. See tablets at €350 or less, ranked by Budget score, or at €200 or less for reading and video. Our refurbished or new guide helps you choose the seller and the grade.

🟣 Smart profile: the best balance, new

The Smart profile is the default profile. It sets no price range: it only looks at new offers, sets aside tablets whose Smart score is below 50 out of 100, and keeps the best. As the screen is not measured, the Smart score rests on 80% of the weight; from these weights, battery accounts for nearly a third of it and value for money a quarter. When Picksly suggests a tablet outside your selection for this profile, it never picks one more expensive than the most expensive tablet you are comparing. See tablets ranked by Smart score, or those at €500 or less if you have a ceiling.

🔵 Premium profile: the best quality, regardless of price

The Premium profile ignores price and only keeps new devices, never refurbished, with a Premium score of at least 60 out of 100. Without a measured screen, this score rests on 70% of the weight, half of which is performance: so it is mostly the chip that decides. The Premium rule also keeps models released within the last 24 months, but as of 26 September 2026 Picksly does not yet know the release date of any tablet: an unknown date does not rule a model out, so this condition rules out no tablet today. A survey of dates from GSMArena spec sheets is ready; until then, check the model's release year yourself. See tablets ranked by Premium score.

Where the prices come from

No price is written without a real listing, reread at the retailer. The listing title must name the model (a case or a screen protector does not pass), at least three suitable listings are needed, and a listing below 70% of the median price is discarded as a part, fraud or error. A "new" price below 60% of the refurbished price of the same model is not kept as a new price. Every price is dated: it may have moved since it was read, so check it on the listing before buying.

How to find yours with Picksly

  • Open the tablets page, choose a price range, then rank by profile score or by criterion.
  • Select two to four tablets: Picksly picks one choice per profile and says why, or says that none fits ("nothing under €350", "no recent high-end model").
  • Check on the retailer's listing what the score does not see: screen, stylus, storage, weight, sound.
  • See also the Top 10 tablets, a selection built from real retailer listings.

FAQ

What is the best tablet in 2026?

There is no single one: the ranking depends on your use, your profile and current prices, which Picksly recalculates from the verified offers in your market. Rank tablets by Smart score to see which one comes first new, or by Budget score at €350 or less if you accept refurbished.

iPad or Android tablet?

It is first a question of ecosystem: your apps, your accessories and your phone. Picksly scores iPads and Android tablets on the same AnTuTu and GSMArena scales, but iPads whose battery is only published in watt-hours have no overall score: compare them criterion by criterion.

Can a tablet replace a laptop?

For reading, browsing and note-taking, often, especially with a keyboard. For heavy software or demanding multitasking, a laptop remains better suited. For back to school, our student kit helps split the budget between the two.

Is Picksly paid by merchants?

Picksly may earn a commission when you buy through one of its links, at no extra cost to you. The scores come from public sources and do not depend on affiliation; what affiliation can change is explained on our transparency page.

Install the Picksly extension: it recognises the tablet you are looking at, searches for verified alternatives suited to your profile — Budget, Smart or Premium — and tells you when the listing shown is not the best choice for you.
